On 11 January the LTA announced the new 2018 – 2028 LTA Performance Strategy. This is a 10 year vision for British Tennis that aims to make Great Britain one of the most respected nations in the world for player development by creating a seamless Player Pathway.
The pathway will knit together current and future programmes into a clear route from Mini Red to major tournament success. It outlines the key stages of progression, the pathway programmes that exist at each stage and the support that is available for players, parents, coaches and centres.
Part of this Player Pathway will be County Training and in 2018-2019, County Training will be from 8U to 18U with the 8U – 14U age groups benefitting from 10 training camps each. The purpose of this programme is to provide regular opportunities for the best players in the county to train and compete with one another. This programme will aim to accelerate the development of players aged 7-14 to create competition for places at Regional Training & the NAGP (National Age Group Programme) and to retain more young players in regular training and competition through to age 18.
Players will have opportunities to represent their county as part of a county team and County training will be delivered by local coaches who have specialised training and a track record of working with county performance players. The programme will be supported by the LTA National Player Pathway Team.
Captains will be listed here soon for 2018-2019 County Squads
