Wiltshire Junior County Champs 2019

William and Gigi are Triple Trophy Winners

Over 100 players from across the County participated in The 2019 Wiltshire Tennis Junior County Championships which was held at Pewsey Tennis Club and The Delta Tennis Centre.

The Tournament started indoors at the Delta Tennis Centre for the 8 & Under and 9 & Under events and then moved outdoors to Pewsey for the older events. The weather was kind all week so Referee Roger Witt and his team managed to complete all the matches in time for Finals Day when Sir Geoff Owen, President of Wiltshire LTA, was present to award the trophies and medals.

William Burridge from Swindon won three events – the Boys 18 & under and 16 & under singles and then the Boys 16 & under doubles with Jack Goodwin. Gigi Ifil matched her three wins by winning the Girls14 & under singles and then followed this up by winning the Girls and Mixed 14 & under doubles with Erin Neesham and Charlie Dore respectively

Players with two event wins were Ella Bennett, who won the Girls 10 & under singles and doubles, Jessica Longjohn, who won the Girls 16 & under and 18 & under singles, and her brother Anthony who won the Boys 12 & under singles and doubles.

The 12 & under boys and girls winners automatically qualify for the Babolat Cup National Finals so joining Anthony at these finals will be Macy May Kilford from Swindon.

Roger Henry, Wiltshire Tennis Chairman of Tennis, said “The sportsmanship throughout the tournament was excellent and the standard of tennis in the finals was high. I can see that the future of Wiltshire Tennis is on the up”
